Welcome to the forum Benjyh-
Well this is the place to find out the best places to hunt. But first, where are you located and what type of detecting are you interested in? Do you have a detector yet? No matter where your located, or what type of detecting you want to do, someone on this forum will be able to help.

First you have to decide what you want to look for...gold nuggets? old coins? jewelry?

Then get to know your detector. Hunt your yard. Hunt your friends and family's yards. Hunt the tot lots in the local parks.

Read Dick Stouts "Where to Find Treasure". Join a local metal detecting club.

Read all the local history books you can get your hands on. Talk to all the old people you know-they knew a lot of treasure leads that are not in the books.

Have fun, be positive and you will find treasure. B)

WELCOME!! Glad you found this Forum! It's mostly a matter of getting out and using your detector as much as you can, then the finds will come!

I'd recommend getting access to as many yards as you can in the beginning. They tend to be less trashy, and you will have a chance to get used to good signals quicker. To pull old coins out of worked over parks, you must have a good machine, and understand how to get the max performance out of it...........................I've found that a really good spot to find old coins is the parking strip between the street and the sidewalk in the older neighborhoods. The most valuable coin I ever found- 1909S Indian was found along a parking strip about three inches deep......Good Luck!
