5150-
I have both, DFX and SE. The DFX is my back up machine. I find that the SE goes deeper than the DFX. Also, programming and navigating with the SE seems to me to be a bit easier. Pinpointing is a bit more diffcult with the SE, but after a while you should get the hang of it. One other thing...so far I have found that the DFX works better in tot lots. It may be that I have the settings to high on my SE around the kids equipment, so I get a lot of falsing, but the DFX didn't seem to have as severe a problem as the SE. So...if you don't mind digging deeper holes and changing settings quicker, than the SE would be the machine. Just my humble opinion. I don't know anything about the DFX 300. Let's us know which machine you choose.

Well the Explorer of course! Everyone knows that ;)

Another vote for the Explorer. Having owned both the Explorer and DFX, and using both quite a bit, the Explorer, IMHO, wins hands down. It's deeper, better in trash, has more options, and "sounds" better, again, IMHO.

Personally, I find Whites to have lost whatever edge they used to have. The new "300" models appear to be marketed as improved, but adding a bigger coil to a machine hardly means innovation.

I wouldn't rule out the Whites MXT. I have the SE as well, I'm not going to say which is better yet, but, I am really enjoying using the MXT lately. Deep Silver, the Explorer has a clear advantage though.

I just figured that I needed 1 for relic and coins and 1 strictly for GOLD ! I have been prospecting for about 15 years and found a real good ledge in the Los Padres Forrest. I have been using a sluce and pan. After a lot of research in the area that I have been walking to (9.5 Miles) form where I park the car, I found out that their were a couple of gold camps and a small town that had a saloon, general store and a brothel. Nothing is left and has been washed away by the rains over the last 158 years. I have found some nuggets and have 23 oz of pickers and color. A real good area but got to thinking about the town and camps and figured that the old timers had to of lost or buried something for the 5 years taht they were there. For the investment I just wanted the best that I could get for the long walk that I could use for Gold or Relic hunting. :)

You made a real good choice. All the advice on which machine to get is all good advice. But what matters to me IMHO is what are you looking for with your machine of choice.
