Title: What Is "warn Level"?
Description: A few folks have asked...

I've gotten a number of emails asking what "Warn Level" is...you see this under your name in postings on the left side of the window. It's basically a system that allows multiple moderators to work together.
For example, if a forum has 10 moderators, and one moderator sees a user post something obscene (and deletes the post), that would be a "strike" (maybe it's in bad taste, or whatever, but not so bad that you'd want to ban the user). You'd up that user's warning level. Then, that same evening, that user posts something else not so nice, and moderator #2 sees it, moderates it, and warns the user again. Now that user's warning level is up to level 2...Do you see where this is going? Had Moderator #1 not warned the user, moderator #2 wouldn't know about it. At some point, if this were to continue, the user's warn level would get up to 5, 6 or higher, and then the moderators have a choice to make - this user has been warned enough times that it warrants banning him or her, or temporarily suspending him, etc.
It's just a feature that comes with the board. No one else sees your warning level except you and the moderators.
At this point in the forum, EVERYONE is at 0%, there have been no warnings, and I don't expect this system will be used much.
I hope that clarifies it, let me know if you have questions or comments.

0% but why the 5 blocks?
goldhart - June 1, 2005 01:15 PM (GMT)
Everybody gets 5 brown blocks-I think it is just a scale. As long as you are at 0% it means you haven't had any strikes against you!
