Hey all,

I was wondering if someone could help me: Does anyone know of a place to rent a groundsearching metal detecter in or near Sacramento? I lost a silver ring while doing some gardening this morning, and while it wasn't expensive, it has sentimental value. Its a huge garden. Field, actually, and I can't think of any other way of finding the thing again. I think it must be at the bottom of a newly planted seedling. I live in Davis, btw, so a place there would be even better. Any ideas?

Look up under "M" in the yellow pages, for "metal - locating" (or it may be "metal - detecting") There's a few dealers in that area, and most dealers usually have something you can rent. Rate might be something on the order of $15 or $25 per day. Also, in a pinch, sometimes rental yards rent detectors too. Like Powers Rentals, or United Rentals. Those would normally be for someone looking for property markers, and the guys at the rental yard probably wouldn't know much about how they operate. But a detector dealer would normally know much more. Also a detector dealer can sometimes point you in the direction of a hobbyist in the area, who could perhaps be hired out to look for you, if you aren't proficient or confident with operating it yourself.
