Just wondering if anyone has had any luck finding old coins down here around chula vista... new to area, I have done some research, but it seems all old places are going to be off limits any hints would be greatly appreciated, just looking for older coins older then 1960s would be great!!

Vanoldschool, Just north of CV, National City has some age to it(Victorian) and some nice older parks, but be aware of gang activity in that area. Unfortunately some of the better (older) nieghborhoods on the South side fall into the same catagory. I'm not saying don't go, just be aware of what's going on. DJ Davey

Van,
San Diego has old coins, but most are on private property. Try driving around and looking for open lots that aren't posted, parking strips in older parts of town, and neglected lawns on old houses. Ask the property owner of the old house if you can detect their front yard. You will get turned down, but be persistant, eventually you will get someone who doesn't care as long as you fill your holes. Don't make huge holes. Get a pinpointer (vibraprobe works well) and use a screw driver to make your hole.
As for public land with old coins. Good luck! it's not easy to find. best thing to do is keep your eyes open as you drive around town. Go to the local library and do the research on the older places. This is where you must start. B)

The town of Julian is very old and might be worth looking into for metal detecting. I am not sure how far that is from Chula Vista.

Julian is about 60 miles northeast of San Diego, but good luck getting permission to hunt.. it's all private property up there. DJDavey
