I bought my son a metal detector for christmas and we are interested in
doing some gold nugget hunting. We live in southern california.
Does anyone know of any sites where I could take my son where he has a reasonably good chance of detecting a nugget. Within a days drive, california
or Nevada. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Perhaps along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River... I've never gone MDing for nuggets there (as I am fairly new to it myself), but I have gone panning there and have seen others shooting the area for nuggets. Not sure how successful they were. There is quite a bit of online info about the area, including driving directions, productive areas, etc. Hope this helps a little.

Our GPAA chapter out of Brea just had our monthly meeting this past Wednesday night (01/25/06). But I believe our next outing in February will be after our next February meeting.
