Title: Scoop Advice Needed

Eddie Currents - May 30, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
Will probably try one of the L.A. beaches soon and I'm wondering which type of scoop is best. I don't want a huge, long-handled scoop. Just a one-hand type. But, I'm wondering if steel or plastic is best. I plan to hunt dry and wet sand but not in the surf. I like the idea of a lighweight plastic scoop but do they work okay for wet sand?

Also, is just a scoop enough or would a trowl type tool be useful too?

Thanks,
EC

Eddie,

For one handed wet-dry scoops I would recommend a scoop with a wire basket
because it'll let the sand drain much quicker than the type of scoop that uses
drilled holes.

Hi Eddie, Rudy is right. Don't get the drilled hole version.
A wire basket bottom works the best - in wet or dry. Get
one with a good grip. I have purchased scoops on ebay
from RTGstore. They are very good. Bid or buy directly
from them if you need it now. If you bid you might get it
for little less money. Catch ya later. AG

Unless your a big guy, those short handle scoops are hard on your wrist in the wet sand.

Better to buy "kick it in scoops" if you want the least effort in recovery.

I got one with an adjustable handle (from 14" to 40").

I wasn't sure how long a handle to get (not having used one before) so I got the adjustable one.
