Hey Mark,

You got yourself a great machine there.

First, make sure you read the engineer's report and the mxt diary, along with the manual.
There is a large amount of info hidden in those two pieces.

I would also recommend that you download and print Nevada Reno's MXT FAQs. Very informative. You can get it at:

Just click on the Tutorials button.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Mark,
Something else you can try, if you are getting a lot of noise when running your gain at +1 to +3. Back it down to 6 or 7. Will run real smooth and you don't loose much depth(if any). I have found a lot nickles at this setting and a few rings. Also this will save your hearing !

No problem,

feel free to ask questions about the MXT here or by PM and I'll try to answer them.

Rudy,

Thanks for that link! It has really helped. I run in "Relic" mode most of the time. I like the Iron "grunt". I was walking back to my car at a pretty quick pace and just swingin', not really paying attention and when that high tone hit, it stop me dead in my tracks and there was that silver solitaire ring I posted about a week ago. Anyway, so far I am pretty happy with this new addition.

Randy,

Your gonna LOVE IT!!!!! It's a great machine. We'll have to try them at the beach!!

Thanks for the tip Craig!!!

You are welcome.

By the way, the wet sand is one place where the MXT doesn't shine. It gets too noisy. Get a DD coil for it to tame some of that noise in the wet sand.

Yeah, I've heard or read something to that effect. For now I'll keep it in the dry sand and use the surfmaster for the wet stuff. But I think I will invest in that DD coil for future beach hunting.

Mark,
If you can invest in both of the DD coils ! I use my 3X6 in the real trashy areas and the 6X10 in moderate trash areas. I also have a bigfoot that I use in wide open areas.

Randy,

I personally don't like running in Relic mode and hearing all those grunts. The MXT is noisy enough as it is.

But, in an area with lots of iron, I think it is better to get the grunts than to have the threshold sound null.

My reasoning is that if there is a good target next to the iron and I sweep the coil first over the iron and then past the good target, I'll get a grunt followed by a beep. If I run in C&J mode or Relic mode with the trigger forward, the threshold nulls out as I go past the iron and then I never hear the good target.

Maybe Greg will come by here and confirm, deny, or amplify.
