Title: Which Detector Would You Recommend
TwT - November 18, 2006 03:59 AM (GMT)
Hi, this is my first post, I have asked this question on other forums about other detectors and so for I like the Garrett GTI 1500 with different coils but here goes so if any of you read this before forgive me, I am looking for a detector that I can hunt relics (mostly), beach (4 weeks a year) and some prospecting (some), I was told by someone they would recommend the Sovereign GT so I decided to come to this forum and ask the same question, But what I need is someone that has used these detectors for these 3 type's of hunting that I want to do, and yep I want to hunt wet sand also... any responses will be appreciated!!

Thr Whites M6 cover all youir needs with a price under 600 dollors. As for extra coils, all the DFX & MXT coils will interchange, so you have quit a selection.
I should also add that this detector is as turn and go you can find. It won't go as deep as some of the Minlabs, but is half the price. This is a super first detector.

Whites MXT is best suited for you
http://www.whiteselectronics.com/mxtw.php, it has 3 modes: Relic, Prospecting and Coin/Jewelry.

Thanks for your suggestions, I looked at the MXT and had a few tell me it was not that good on real salty beaches , I usually go to South Carolina beaches and the salt percentage is very high through that part of the Atlantic..
I havent looked at the M6, might need to do some research on it.....
Thanks again for all your help!!!

Hmmm... buy a Minelab detector from the SD or GP series, they excell on the beaches and goldfields, relic fields I don't know.

I would think hard about an MXT...Has very good and fast ground tracking. Its also very sensitive to small gold targets. If it were me, MXT or the DFX.
As far as the Minelab SD or GP series detectors, well........If you are into digging holes to China, then they would be AWESOME choices :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I tried the SD 2200 at the beaches here in SoCal and WOW the depth was AWESOME on coin sized targets. But alas they are a bit pricey
Just my 2 cents

I'd second the suggestion on the Sovereign, the Whites machines won't work very well on wet salty sand, where the Sovereign excels. The Sovereign will also go deeper on silver than the Whites machines, hands down.
The MXT is a good machine, but more suited for relics and gold prospecting.

Ooops........
I didnt read through the entire post. I must agree with Jeff, if the GT is in your target range then by all means it would be the winner hands down. Its a great machine for the beach and does very well on dry land. The BBS technology is the better of them all by far. If you add a WOT coil to the GT on the beach, there is no stopping you.

Listen to Jeff Kinzli....on the beach its Minelab #1....or big bucks for a DFX which would be a close 2nd. Personally I like my Excalibur 1000 over my DFX on wet sand.
hey Jeff, you know the saying "Minelab's the best....xxxx the rest!!"! Right on!!! HH all!!!
(not meant to piss anyone off)

Ok, if I had to choose the best detector for the three different type of hunts I want to do, which would be the best Sovereign GT of the DFX??
AgileMJOLNIR - November 25, 2006 09:11 AM (GMT)
Well to be honest you sound like you have very limited experience detecting so I might stay clear of the DFX. Not to say you couldn't learn it, after all it was my first detector and I adjusted to it. One thing with the DFX is that if you don't know what your doing it's easy to screw up the settings. Next thing you know your finding noting but clad 2in deep.
I used the Sovereign Elite after selling my DFX. It's the same as the GT minus a few New/Old features that were added. I really enjoyed my Sovereign more than I did my DFX. The Sovereign is pretty much a turn on and go detector. Not much you need to do except turning it on and adjusting your disc and volume. I found the Sovereign to be very easy to learn. It's one of the best beach machines you can get and I was very comfortable with it on land. It will also find gold but not the tiny little pieces that the DFX may sniff out a little better.
I think the Sovereign is a pretty well rounded machine that you won't be disappointed with.

Thanks to everyone who posted, I am getting the Sov GT, thanks again for the help....
Jeff Kinzli - November 25, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
I think that's a good move. It's a killer beach machine. The DFX is ok, but I certainly would take the Sov over the DFX any day. If you want the ultimate for coverage and depth on the beach, get a WOT coil for it too. You'll be king of the beach :)
