Im new and was wondering which areas in ca are generally off limits. I was also wondering if a gold detector like the gold bug 2 would find those rare coins everyone finds? thanks

BoBo-
Any national parks or historical sites. There's more I'm sure, but I haven't encountered any others yet.

Bobo, if an area is posted or even a fence it is advised to ask, thats in the rural areas anyway where I detect,I cant really speak for the cities. As for the gold bug I found my first old coin with mine it is a metal detector. But I dont reccomend it as your main relic/coin machine, there is to many other detectors suited just for that.I do find alot of gold with mine though!

I think most of the beaches around here(northern ca) are BLM or State Parks. What do you think about those places? Also could anyone recommend a avg price coin machine? Just wondered what they cost cuz the Gold Bug is borrowed from a good pal, so im thinking maybe someday he might ask for it back. I know there is alot of gold in my area, so maybe a good dual purpose detector? Anyway thanks for the good replys.

My only experience with BLM has been out of state and for the most part it wasnt good but that is another storyI would ask at the local ranger station at the state park.I just always ask before detecting anywhere(I still have problems every now and then)I have a Whites MXT and it is an awesome machine for relics and gold. There is better coin detectors but I find my fair share, its very versatile and retails for seven or eight hundred dollars.
