C-130Max - January 1, 2007 05:18 AM (GMT)
Just moved to CA. Live in the Fairfield area, looking for a club or someone to learn from. Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
C-130Max

Welcome to the forums. I know we have several members that live over there in your area (I use to live in fairfield). I'm sure someone will speak up. Tell us more about yourself, what detector are you hunting with?

I am using a Whites DFX. I move here from NC in November. I am a C-130 Loadmaster in the Air Force and kind of new to this hobby. The little hunting that I have done, I really enjoyed. I don't have a preference to any particular type of hunting (coin, nugget, relic) as of yet. Just interested in learning more. Are there any laws that I need to be aware of as far as where I can and can not hunt in CA i.e. State Parks, Historical sites. All information is welcomed.
Thanks,
Max

Air Force? You must be stationed over at Travis then?
Well as for laws your pretty much ok to hunt where you like as long as your not trespassing (or not getting caught at it). State parks and especially historical sites are usually off limits and can get you a fine if caught unless given permission to hunt there of course.
The DFX was my first detector and it's a good one. If your new to the detector then your going to find out the plethora of settings it has. Stick with it and don't be afraid to ask tons of question here no matter how silly they sound.
For DFX or detector help in general try the following websites:

Thanks for the information. I have been researching some local areas to hit and practice some. I look forward to being a part of this forum in the future. I am sure that I will have some questions in the future.
Thanks,
Max

Well welcome to the forums and don't be shy when it comes to asking questions here. There is always someone here that will have an answer for you. Now get out there and make some finds. Have fun!

welcome, what i did was grab different coins and an old gold ring and buried them about 3-5 inches and went over each of them until I could guess what the tone meant, you might also throw in some pull tabs, there is a differnve between gold and tabs , one thing I have learned is to dig everything!! good luck
