No one perfect answer as different gold coins have different sizes and different readings.

The $1 and $2.50 will hit in the nickel to low tab range.
$5 will hit War Nickel/Indian/Zinc penny but a bit left on the Explorer screen
$10 a little higher than Zinc
$20 Almost like Memorial/wheat/clad dime but farther left on the Explorer

These are just estimates

The $20 I found hit at 180 on my Sovereign, and was so loud I thought it would be a big washer.Wasnt deep .Gold coins just come when your at the right place, right time. Think it would be hard to go to a park and just try for a gold coin.Good luck-Ray

If it is a place you can come back to time and time again, yes, dig the iron.Iron will mask other nearby targets. What weve done at demos, etc. Is bring a 5 gallon bucket and just start chucking the iron/trash in it. Good luck, I would love to see you find a cashe of gold coins!

Hi BenjyH,

If they had spent some time in college they would read really well.

But Ron what about Chinese Gold coins??

OT
Depends on if it is a Old Chinese Coin or a New Chinese Gold Coin!!

The OLD Chinese Gold Coins tend to "read" top to bottom and then right to left.

The NEW Chinese Gold Coins tend to "read" left to right and then top to bottom.

Regardless, Chinese Gold Coins have difficulty reading. :bounce:

HIGHLIGHT HERE

Traditionally, Chinese was written from top to bottom and then right to left. This is still the method preferred in Taiwan, but the People's Republic of China has switched to the European style of left to right, top to bottom.
